Extract from liner notes:
....'Dumitru Dana Siminica and Faramita Lambru are the performers presented here
- they are the descendants of the great instrumentalists of folk music, they are the ones who took further the fame and art, so full of gift and wisdom, of their forefathers.
How deep and far back this art goes, no one can really tell - but, if we muse on Anton Pann, an unparalleled troubadour of his time, we can say his tunes and powerful social verse were but the message of a peerless instrumentalist. Since then, the folk song found its way to the soul of people.
Many were the troubadours who gave expression to both hard times and labors of love. Over the years, their magic instrument would enchant and
sadden the souls of wedding guests, sometimes. Unfortunately, there were no means of preserving the memory of them all for posterity.
Great folk performers have taken Romanian folk song all over the world.
Faramita Lambru and Dumitru Dana Siminica are two artists featured on this CD; two artists who put the love for art in everyone's heart. He who heard once La Salul cel negru (At the black Shawl's) will always identify it with Siminica, its interpreter.
Hora lui Faramita (Faramita's Hora) will give strength to Faramita Lambru's recognized primacy among his peers. Am lubit si-am sa iubesc (I have loved and will again) is one old song rediscovered and interpreted by his followers.
How many voices, famous by now (loana Radu and Maria Tanase) have given new life to the songs of these great?
Maria Tanase discovered Faramita Lambru, an outstanding talent. She noticed from his first audition, even, what a fountain of original songs he was, and how swiftly, gently and tenderly his fingers, as those of a lover, ran over the keys of his accordion. When she recorded Trei focuri arde pe lume, (Three fires is burning in the world) the great
Maria Tanase had him by his right side, because she considered him a real artistic support.
Sapte vai si-o vale-adanca I Aolica maica, lupii ma mananca (Seven glens and one deep dale I Mother oh, mine, wolves are getting me alive) are lines of a song with which Faramita Lambru balanced Siminica's force of interpretation of Afara era intuneric (Dark was it outside). Their interpretation took its substance from the way they learned on the verse. Mosule teas intreba (Old man, I would ask you) Siminica sings, as if in wonder of how life is and how love feels. Never wavering, never swerving, just yielding to the fire consuming him.
La Salul cel negru is the song that burns, as the interpreter burns while burning deep into the heart of the listener, such is the way and message of the song. Inel, inel de aur..., (Ring, oh, golden ring), Lelita Floare (Floare, Sweetheart) are no less.
Joy and optimism are the essence of Faramita Lambru's La Calul Balan (At the White Horse's) and La crama la Dragasani (At the Wine cellar in Dragasani).
Two great performers united on one disc as a token of cultural respect both for the songs of great instrumentalists and singers and the unveiling of the journey made by the bards of the Romanian
nation'.
