"Maria Ciobanu (born 3rd September 1937, Valcea county, Romania) is an interpreter of Romanian country music.

Her father, Ion Ciobanu, was a popular instrument player, and his mother, Nicola, had an extraordinary voice. In this climate grew the musical talent of native Maria Ciobanu.

Following a contest in April 1962, Maria Ciobanu joined the renowned Ensemble Ciocârlia in Bucharest. Her voice and interpretative skills were a highlight in many concerts . She was also part of the ensemble Doina Ilfov and collaborated with many other ensembles of folk songs and dances performing in major cities of Romania."
