The music of Romanian Gypsy pan flute virtuoso Damian Draghici is influenced by rock, jazz, and classical as well as Eastern European, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Spanish flamenco.
From record label:
"Damian Draghici was born in Bucharest, in a family that had been singing for the last 7 generations.
During the communism era, he succeeded to cross the border and go to Greece, where he was a street musician until he could get a job to perform in a club.
But his talent did not remain anonymous for long: Sony discovered him and made him well known in Europe; he also had the opportunity to give an audition in front of the representatives of the prestigious music college
Berklee, Boston USA. Berklee offered him a full scholarship and he succeeded to finish
a four-year program in just one!
After 18 years of traveling the world, in 2006 Damian Draghici decided to come back to his roots, by putting the
basis of a new group with “his gypsy brothers” as he likes to say. One of the purposes of
'Damian and Brothers, Filarmonika Rromanes' is changing the international perception and the stereotypes over Rroma minority through their music. The impact and the huge popularity achieved until now are a confirmation of their common effort.
The official recognition of Draghici’s efforts and dedication to promoting Rroma minority came on 20th of March 2007 when he was
designated by the President of Romania, as Romania’s Ambassador for the Rroma minority in the European Year of Equal Opportunities for
all.
'All my experiences are expressed in my music', says Damian."
