Romanian folk singer Marioara Tanasei
with various folk orchestra accompaniment.
The singer of romantic popular music Marioara Tanase was born in 1940 into a family of folk song lovers in the Transylvanian town of
Sighisoara, Romania.
She made her first recordings in 1958 for Electrecord and was soon soon recognized as a leading representative of Transylvanian folk melodies.
She collected songs and Doinas in her native Sighisoara and surrounding villages, and shared her love of folk songs
with audiences in Romania and abroad.
On the eve of an tour of North America Marioara Tanase was sadly killed in a motor car accident. She was only 29.
Her body was laid in the Cathedral Sighisoara for 2 days, where thousands of fans came to mourn her passing.
