Romica Puceanu is well known in Romanian folk music for being the leading interpreter of what is
termed 'cintec de pahar', a style of gypsy singing that combines elements of both Turkish and
Romanian music.
Romica has been compared to such singers as Cesaria Evora, her singing talents being recognised at the
early age of 13 after singing at many weddings and village bars. Known to her many fans as 'Our Queen' she has been
sadly missed after her death in 1996 in a car accident.
On this collection from the archives of Electrecord, Romania, Romica
Puceanu is accompanied by the Gore Brothers and the Orchestras
of Florea Cioaca, Ion Albesteanuand Dorel Zamfir.
