"George Georgescu was one of the most interesting personalities among the great chiefs of orchestra, the first Romanian
conductor who went beyond the musical territorial boundaries of our country. He assimilated the old traditional elements of the old German
conductor school made famous by the three names: Hans Guido von Bulow, Hans Richter and Arthur Nikisch (the latter a student of his).
George, Georgescu instinctively and harmoniously mixed the characteristics of the German school that formed him, with those of his
southern origins. He was the prototype of the orchestra conductor born at the end of the 19th century, at the same time with the difficult music
scores of Wagner, Brahms, Mahler, when, for the first, a conductor was needed that would dedicate himself entirely to this activity.
He was also a representative of the ideology of his time: the cult of the outstanding individual, the charismatic chief, loved and admired
for his strength. Nietzsche's Superman, whose philosophy became more
and more widespread. The conductor's entrance on the stage was supposed to be that of the super-endowed chief who would lead his
orchestra to victory, seducing the players and the audience with his inherent hero qualities. Seen in this light, maestro
George Georgescu appears today as one of the most representative
and one of the last conductors of an international generation that is
forever gone, never to return, due to today's way of thinking and
rethinking aesthetic criteria"
