A lovely atmospheric and authentic collection of
folk songs from Upper Hungary - Felvidek. The Hegedos Ensemble doing an
excellent job complimenting the beautiful voice of Gyongyi
Ecsi.
Present-day Felvidek (Hungarian name) lies in Slovakia, but its
inhabitants include a Hungarian minority whose music is steeped in
traditional customs and an ancient way of life.
With this recording Gyongyi Ecsi, along with the Hegedos Ensemble, has interpreted the music using
instruments, and groups of instruments, unique to Felvidek, at all times
striving to stay true to the source.
Interestingly they have researched and sought out the authentic
instruments of this area, their goal being '.. getting the closest we
could to a sound that is true to the tradition by using either original
instruments or good copies thereof ..'
