Hungarian folk music from one of the foremost dance house (Tanchaz) ensembles in Hungary.

From sleeve notes:
"As the Muzsikás started the first dance-house in the Capital House of Youth in the Molnár street together with the Téka band, nobody imagined that this would be the longest-existing dance-house in the folk-music revival history of Hungary. Following the founders, the Kalamajka band started to play here form 1978 and is still playing up to now, although white-haired and more corpulent than before. The leading teachers of the dance-house, József Janek, Károly György, Péter Lévai, Mihály Pál, György Bohus, Júlia Redo and in the children’s dancing hall Éva Fábián helped develop entire generations’ love for folk dance and music. In addition to dancing, friendships and quarrels, love and break-ups came and went during these 30 years, in other words, we spent a great part of our lives here... Since 2003 the party is going on in the Aranytíz Cultural Center, Budapest-Belváros, nobody knows, for how any more years. If it is up to the band, the party will continue for many years to come. Would it be possible to live without dancing and music? Possibly, but a life like that wouldn’t be worth a dime!"


In the centre of Budapect in the street called Molnar Utca, Kalamajka held their weekly Tanchaz. For many years this was 'the place' to go to in Budapest to see and hear the best folk music and dancing outside of Transylvania. But all good things come to an end.

Bela Halmos from Kalamajka has worked with Ferenc Sebo, Muzsikas and on many solo projects and was a leading light of the 70s tanchaz movement.
