Fiddler Viktor Szabó (b. 1939) is from the Central Transylvanian village of Mezokölpény, where his father was a famous violinist. He plays the violin left-handed and strings his violin in reverse.
József Csurkuly (b. 1944) hails from the Transylvanian village Magyarpéterlaka. While only 14 years old and playing in the band Maros Ensemble he met Viktor. From then on they have played together in various bands at weddings and dances in
Hungarian and Romanian villages. As well as playing the cimbalom, József is well known for his ability to
do repairs and build new cimbaloms for others.
The other members of the band are from Budapest,
András Lelkes being a member of Tukros
Ensemble and Ágoston 'Aggi' Bartha playing with the Hungarian
Hurdy-Gurdy Ensemble and a big collector of folk music on 78rpm discs.
Cifra on themselves:
'Our group plays entertainment music for stringed instruments following the traditional performance style of our predecessors. Our violinist and cymbalist have their origins in famous musical families living in small Transylvanian villages, so we play both original Hungarian and Rumanian folk music. As these musicians have lived in an urban environment for many years, they have also become acquainted with the traditional Hungarian gypsy tunes played in the restaurants and with the different popular melodies known all over the world.
Our program is based on these 4 types of music. Our group is pleased to participate at weddings, birthday parties or any other special events...
