The Earth Wheel Sky
Band
live in a region of Serbia called Vojvodina, which is part of
Panonia. It is there that cultures are mixed, and being Gypsies they can make something creative
from this.
Leader Olah Vince, a Gypsy activist, cannot live without music and is not satisfied to live one
life. As well as his band he collaborates with such artists as the Boris
Kovac LaDaABa Orchest as well as helping to establish a Gypsy radio in Novi
Sad.
'Earth - Wheel - Sky is one of the first projects
of the Roma musicians in Vojvodina. The band was founded in 1981. Having
in mind the experience of jazz, rock and Roma folk music, the leader
of the group Vince Olah wanted to give his contribution to the music of
the Roma people, as one of the strong points in the fight for Roma
emancipation.
Apart from the group leader, the new band members are musicians who, for a
number of years, have been playing with the violinist Felix
Lajko.
The project Roma Art is the sublimation of all styles of music playing of
the Roma in the world.'
