Boban Markovic Orkestar, the famous
Yugoslavian Gypsy band that have previously been featured in movies by the
celebrated director Emil Kusturica.
Boban Markovic had another chance to celebrate in 2000, the Orkestar again winning the prize of "Best Band" in Guca. In Hungary there was hardly a festival that did not invite them.
This CD, as seen from the title, mirrors Boban's 'Millennium': the hit songs, numbers fine-tuned during the year, followed by typical Serbian music such as "Zaidi" and the "Oj, Borije". The album underlines his compositional abilities while his virtuoso trumpet solos are still
unique!
Unique Gypsy brass style
with some stunning arrangements.
'It’s like being injected intravenously with a life-giving drug. Markovic’s music might sound wild and improvised, but actually it’s meticulously worked out and
rehearsed.' Simon Broughton, SONGLINES
