World Music The Rough Guide 1994
Three generations of the Bisserov family: the Bisserov Sisters, their
mother and aunts, and also their children.
It was their mother and her sisters who handed down
the songs for future generations. These songs were a part of their everyday
live sung during their work in the mountains,
their celebrations and festival days in the Pirin village.
The children have grown up and now perform with the sisters both in Bulgaria and
abroad.
The majority of the songs are traditional and are fine examples of an ancient style of singing from the Pirin region. There are also two tracks, 10 and 26, featuring the zurna, a strident reed instrument highly suited to the
Bisserov Sisters' strong
voices.
