World Music The Rough Guide 1994
All song are traditional.
The Bisserov Sisters, Lyubimka, Neda and Mitra sing, dance and teach the folk songs, dances and music they were brought up on in their native Bulgaria.
To the sisters these songs and dances are a part of daily life, from the working songs of harvest time to the celebratory songs and dances of wedding parties, spring fairs, and holidays such as St. Lazar's, Easter etc. Their repertoire includes traditional folk music from the Pirin and the bordering Macedonia.
They refined their art of singing during the many years involved with the choirs famously known as 'Les Mystrere des voix Bulgares'. The singing is typical of the Pirin musical dialect, and they accompany themselves on instruments traditional to the area.
The Macedonian songs on this release are typical of the Bulgarian-Macedonian
region the sisters are from.
'All Bulgarian people love to sing and dance when they celebrate a
wedding party or some other celebration. The sound of the songs is different from our old style of singing, and the
instruments too; accordion, clarinet, and modern synthesizer. The tambura
(long-necked lute) is a traditional Bulgarian instrument typical of the Pirin region, producing the rhythm and melody for some of the songs.'
