Wertetics Orkestar play the ancient music of Southern Europe with a modern contemporary flavour.

"Hungary has always been an intersection for different peoples and cultures. We're from a region (The Danube Bend) where Serbian, Hungarian and other communities have been living together for 4-500 years. We've mixed all these influences, our songs contains elements of Serbian, Bulgarian, Macedonian and Gypsy music. On the other hand, we're all young people living in modern times, so it was natural to arrange these tunes in a modern way."
Wertetics Orkestar

South Slavic traditional dance music played by young urban (Budapest) musicians around accordion wizard Slobodan Vertetic.

Founded in February 1997, the current line-up is together since early July 2000. The band plays the ancient melodies of Serbian, Bulgarian and Macedonian music in a modern way by using elements of jazz, rock and funky music. The result is a massive, but colourful sound. The main reason of being so strong and eclectic - without having a confused sound - is that the musicians pick up the essence of those different styles, so the elements will make each other stronger. That's the reason how can a clarinet or an accordion live in peace and harmony with a jazzy guitar riff or with some funky bass and drum - a perfect synthesis of traditional harmonies and the sound of the millennium. All the members are high-qualified players and the tunes give them lots of chances to prove it.

"The band is the Hungarian standard-bearer of the new wave of Balkan fusion. I think their way can be a bridge to the young hearts, a kind of survive of tradition.... A brand new crossover thing."
Mihály Borbély, Chairman of the Department of Jazz, Hungarian Academy Of Music, member of Vujicsics
