"Celtic music at Folk Holidays in Náměšť nad Oslavou in 2003 and 2004

The Folk Holidays in Náměšť nad Oslavou is a remarkable music festival. It lasts 8 days, which for many visitors indeed are musical, dancing and fine art holidays, with a chance to participate both actively and passively. They are surrounded by the beautiful environment of the Náměšť Renaissance chateau and its park as well as the broader Oslava river within and outside the town boundaries.

Every evening music program at the festival has its theme and a varied dramaturgy ranging from styles such as ethnic and traditional music to jazz, rock, folk, and serious music. For the musicians coming to the festival, the event is often an inspiration for performing in an untraditional, special way, and it is not unusual for them to stay for several days, even as audience.

The festival is not just evening concerts in the courtyard. A number of workshops take place during the festival days – you can for example learn the basics of an interesting music instrument, play and chat with the musicians who have captivated the courtyard on the previous evening, create your own drawings, paintings, try silk-screen printing, create three-dimensional objects, write your own texts and poetry. Several afternoon hours are regularly dedicated to what is called “the open scene”: interesting little known music assemblies perform in the town on a small stage behind the Baroque Špitálek at the Oslava river. And in the night not only the festival camp is alive with music, but also the Špitálek chapel. The Folk Holidays festival is an event of excellent art experiences and inspiration."
