From band:
'Chagall was founded in August 2001. The name of the band represents our respect for the world famous
painter, Marc Chagall.
Chagall had a very close connection with music. He learned to play the violin and he listened to his uncle Noah's playing who became the model of the violinist in a couple of Chagall's paintings, such as the famous Green violinist and the "Purple" violinist. The Jewish traditions, holidays and everyday life of his childhood made deep impression in his art. Family, loyalty to friends and confidence were of great importance for him. In his pictures we often see Jewish musicians laughing and crying together with village people.
According to art historians "If Picasso's art means a victory of intelligence, Chagall's art represents the triumph of heart". Our music tries to express the same primacy of emotions and imagination. We are trying to keep the traditions of authentic klezmer music, and we would like to interpret its melody and atmosphere as truly as possible. However we mix it, chamber-music, and jazz elements perform it in a unique way. Our efforts are helped by the fact, that all the members of the band are skilled in different styles, and are members of symphonic or chamber orchestras, string-quartets, jazz combos or rock bands. Our program is as much dance-music as concert-music.'
